Homemade Condiments:Hoisin Sauce




Hoisin Sauce is a thick, sweet and salty sauce that is commonly seen in Chinese cusine.It is also a very popular sauce amongst many cultures, used in a variety of dishes such as stir fries, bbq sauces, meat glazes, pasta as well as a dipping sauce.Hoisin Sauce can be easily made in your own home with a variety of simple ingredients.It is also always consisting of fermented soy beans, garlic and vinegar.Although some regions have their own unique take on the sauce. 



Now Homemade Condiments as giving us foodies a chance to make our very own Hoisin sauce as well as the freedom to add our own flavors.Jessica Harlan has included a delicious homemade version that is so easy to make that you will no longer go for the store bought version.If your someone that loves to stir fry you will most likely already have all these ingredients in your pantry and from there all you have to do is mix them together.This overall, will create a sauce that is great to use in many dishes with a sweet,pungent flavor we all love.

So In the end I have to give this recipe a two big thumbs ups and I recommend you go on and see what you can create.


 Hoisin Sauce


1/4 cup miso paste or creamy peanut butter
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp molasses
2 tsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp plus 1 tsp rice vinegar
1 tsp sesame oil
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)


In a sm.bowl I combined the peanut butter/miso paste,soy sauce,molasses,sugar,rice vinegar,sesame oil,garlic powder and red pepper flakes (optional).Stirred until smooth.The sauce can keep up up to 2 weeks covered in the refrigerator.Or used right away.
